Miss VA was born Virginia Louise Smith on March 7, 1985 to her single mother Debra Smith. Her mother raised her and her brother Kenny the best as she could until they were forced into foster care. Virginia remembered how much her mother loved music and would reminisce waking up to her playing oldies.

As a youth, Miss VA often wrote poetry inspired by her experiences. During her high school years at Central High, she took Creative Writing and was published in the school news paper form her works. In downtime she would listen to the neighborhood boys in cyphers. She remembered how her brother Kenny and cousin Robert would sit on the roof and freestyle. This inspired her to start writing music. Still shy of “rapping” in front of people she continued to write verses to incomplete songs.

Motherhood set in at the age of 18. After giving birth to a son and 2 daughters, Miss VA still continued to write as life gave her more to write about. At the age of 28, Miss VA recorded her first complete song “Pussy Whipped” in a basement studio. She saw that it was not going to be easy to get her foot in the door but new one day she would perform on stage.

While at a friend’s birthday party, she walked in on a cypher. She was skeptical about jumping in as she was always told she needed work and she wasn’t ready or was just completely ignored. Her friend’s husband put on a beat and said “VA Go”. VA “snapped for the entire beat and after. That’s when she was introduced to Shady, an artist of L.O.R. She told VA “ I have been in many battles and cyphers. I have a hit many stages with other femcees and have never saluted not a one. I salute you today. Study your craft, YOU GOT THIS”

About a year later, Miss VA came looking for Shady. She ignored her a bit, but VA was relentless. After several attempts, Shady finally gave in, met with Miss VA and they started to work. Miss VA had a few songs with Shady, Jax Soprano and $wt C written but not recorded. June of 2014 Miss VA was asked to perform for her 2 friends’ birthday party. DJ Shor-T of Omaha Power 106 .9 at that time was the DJ for the party. With only an instrumental, Miss VA and $wt C performed at the birthday party. DJ Shor-T urged Miss VA to get her music recorded and submit it to the radio station.

Still having yet to record, Miss VA attended hip-hop shows always carrying a CD of instrumentals. She would ask at every show if she could pay to perform just 1 song. It finally happened. Summer of 2014 Rukka Puff now known as Zeus Jupiter gave Miss VA a portion of his set. She then took the stage with only an insturmental and performed her song Pipe.” She was shown so much love from some of the artists she watched as a fan. Trendz Trendz, 40 Cal and Rukka Puff all commended her on her performance at the Hide Out. About a month later, 40 Cal reached out to Miss VA offering her her own 10 minute set at the Hide Out. She gladly accepted.

Miss VA reached out to each of the team members for consistent rehearsals, writing sessions and studio time. They went to open mics to practice and establish relationships with bar owner which led Miss VA to putting on her first showcase “Femz Go Hard II at the Soho. It was a great turnout though she learned very quickly the obstacles with putting on such an event.

March 7,2015 Miss VA’s first mixtape “Verbal Assassins” was released. November 18,2016, her 3 song single compilation “Renaissance Woman” was released. Single “Gettin’ Money was released April 1, 2018, and “Raw Dope” featuring Diesel Fluid released March 7,2019.
